Diversion when you need it most
Paediatric emergency departments can be places of stress, anxiety and long waiting times, especially in the evenings. The Giggle Doctors support children, parent’s and medical staff’s wellbeing by visiting the emergency departments several evenings a week. The Giggle Doctors are needed more than ever as their presence helps reduce the perception of the waiting time, eases the anxiety of families and provide support to the medical staff.

Impact
A survey conducted in four hospitals as part of the «Emergency Giggle» programme collected feedback from accompanying persons and medical staff*. The numerous positive responses confirm the positive impact of the Giggle Doctors in paediatric emergency departments, particularly in providing comfort and distraction to children and their parents.

*The results are based on a survey conducted in four hospitals on the ‘Emergency Giggles’ of 10 closed and 1 open question. The survey was carried out by means of an e-mail link for hospital staff (N = 65) and a postcard with a QR code for accompanying persons with children under 12 years of age (N = 156). The participating hospitals were the Aarau Cantonal Hospital, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Switzerland in St. Gallen, the Winterthur Cantonal Hospital and the Hospital of Sion.
